Muurikka fire pits are made of Finnish quality steel. These huge fire pits are made to withstand the extreme weather conditions in the Nordic countries and intense heat. The fire pit has a solid base underneath and the massive legs can be removed and stored. The fire pit, ready for use, can be easily moved to the desired location thanks to the side handles. These massive fire pits create the atmosphere and warmth of a live fire in the cottage or garden. It is pleasant to gather with family and friends around a round fire, enjoy the magical atmosphere and cooking associated with an open fire.
“COR-TEN” = patinated steel resistant to weathering and atmospheric corrosion. The composition of this special steel alloy is unique, containing small amounts of chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), phosphorus (P) and other alloying elements that increase resistance to external influences.
Like normal mild steel, COR-TEN® steel begins to oxidize when exposed to both wet and dry environments. Over time, a thick patina layer forms on the oxidized surface, changing its color from its original reddish brown to light or dark brown. The speed and result of the color change depend on the climate and air quality in the area of use. Sulfuric air accelerates the oxidation process and darkens the surface. The process also accelerates the rapid alternation of wet and dry cycles. In permanently wet or dry conditions, a patina layer does not form, so weather-resistant steel should not be used, for example indoors. The oxidation process usually takes 2-6 years.
